February 18, 2010. Even though the restaurant will not be part of the building, the outside deck was added as well as an entrance to the theater (also not present in the building). However the added feature does bring the building a little closer to what it looked like in 1939.For now, the awning is green, we know that is was actually several colors, but since we only have black and white photos to work from, we don't know what the colors were.
If you have a color photo, or know the colors of the awning, we would really like to hear from you. Contact me at 1939NYWF@pmphoto.to
Inside the main area a photo of architect van der Velde and been placed on the wall. Below it is Educational Stand #24. Visitors to the Pavilion can click on the stand and receive a text Notecard containing information on all three of the architects and references to the information source. These Notecards can be saved to the visitor's computer by doing a copy and paste.
In the front of the building you'll find Educational Notecard #23. View and save information for the Belgium Pavilion. The text was extracted from the Official 1939 hardcover edition of the Fair.We are still looking for information on the interior of the building, especially photos of the decorations, and exhibits. If you have any information, we hope you will share it.
With permission, information and photos would also be added to the appropriate section of my '39 World's Fair Web site.
